YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

FAQS

It was the outcome of a multi-stage strategic review and guided by clear governance structures, legal planning, and strategic analysis to ensure that the resulting organization is well-positioned to support digital community health systems across Africa for the long term.

Existing agreements with Medic remain in effect during the transition. We are working closely with each partner to ensure a seamless novation or renewal process as we shift stewardship to Medic Afya.
Medic Afya was created specifically to strengthen the long-term sustainability of these systems, not to reduce commitment to them. The same teams, partnerships, and program priorities remain in place, with continued collaboration alongside Ministries of Health and local implementing partners.

No. Medic Afya is a fully independent organization with its own board, governance, legal registration, leadership, and revenue strategy. It is not a subsidiary, branch, or program of Medic.

The two organizations are independent nonprofits that collaborate closely as mission-aligned partners, while each playing a distinct and complementary role within the broader digital health ecosystem.

Absolutely. Afya is working with advisors on the required compliance processes to ensure that US-based philanthropic and institutional funders can legally and confidently provide support.

During this transition period, funding pathways and partnership structures have already been established to ensure continuity of financing and program delivery.

Medic continues to lead the core development and stewardship of the Community Health Toolkit, ensuring the platform remains secure, reliable, and continuously improved as a digital public good.

Medic Afya works closely with Medic and local partners to ensure the technology is implemented, adapted, and sustained within real health systems, and contributes implementation insights back into the CHT's evolution as a community member.

Medic Afya's strategy prioritises depth before expansion. The immediate focus is deepening work already underway in Kenya, Uganda, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, and Togo.

Entry into new countries will follow a deliberate, criteria-driven incubation approach based on government demand, local partnership strength, operational feasibility, and sustainability. Success is measured not by the number of countries entered, but by whether digital health systems perform reliably and can be sustained locally.
