Author: Brittany Hume Charm, Member, Medic’s Board of Directors
Recently, Josh Nesbit, Medic’s Co-founder and CEO of 11 years, decided to step down as CEO and transition onto Medic’s Board of Directors. Josh led Medic with relentless dedication, vision, and heart since its journey began in Malawi with a suitcase of feature phones.
Today, Medic’s 90+ team members around the globe are supporting 34,000 health workers in 16 countries, building the open-source Community Health Toolkit (CHT) as a global good for frontline care, and working alongside technical partners, governments, and researchers to harness open-source technology in strengthening and re-imagining health systems.
To lead Medic’s next decade of innovation and impact, our board has teamed up with Russell Reynolds Associates to launch a global search for a high-integrity, inclusive CEO. This new CEO will assume leadership of a mission-driven organization with a healthy financial position and a unique track record of innovation, scale and impact. They will also join a global team of passionate change-makers – including software developers, researchers, and project managers – working every day to build open-source tools and advance health, human flourishing and equitable care for and with the hardest-to-reach communities.
Briefly, we seek:
- A high-integrity, humble global leader. An authentic leader who has worked across global health and technology and has deep experience living and working internationally.
- An exemplary partnerships builder. A natural connector capable of deepening the organization’s network and growing the community of practice among implementation partners, local and national government health authorities, and technical partners.
- A people-centered and results-oriented operational expert. An experienced operator and people manager who has led geographically distributed and diverse teams, effectively stewarded resources, and driven operational excellence.
- A future-focused pioneer with a finger on the pulse of innovation. A creative leader with an entrepreneurial spirit who brings sufficient knowledge of emerging technology, product development, and open-source networks globally.
